Hue and Cry

Hue and Cry began as a response to questions about how we make decisions together, especially within the context of workplace democracy. While trying to design a voting system, and drawing from ideas I encountered in classes like Politics of Code and Mixed Constitutions, I became fascinated by liquid democracy and the way it moves between direct and representative forms of voting.

At the time, I was also trying to start a company with a friend. It was the first time I had to confront how easily someone’s voice can be dismissed within a working relationship. I was collaborating with someone who did not always value my opinion, and I had to learn how to advocate for myself, even when doing so threatened the project and our dynamic. We eventually dissolved the company after nearly a year of work.

So, while Hue and Cry is technically about voting systems, it is also about power, representation, and what it means to insist that your voice matters.
